Description
As sleek and sophisticated as the leopards found in the forests of Kenya, purple tea is quite the sight to behold. The history of purple tea began over 25 years ago, when the Tea Research Foundation of Kenya (TRFK) developed a purple cultivar from the Camellia Sinensis plant. Since then, small-scale farmers began planting these seedlings that yield natural purple leaves.
Apart from being pleasing to the eye, purple tea is chock full of polyphenols and anthocyanins — the same type of antioxidants you would find in superfoods like blueberries, aubergines, and grapes… just to name a few!
Taste Notes:
Its pleasant, woody aroma and light floral notes make the purple tea a natural crowd pleaser. It is low in astringency and tannin bitterness, and has a mouthfeel that is similar to dry red wine.
